Pride of Bristol Bay
✕Founded in 2013, Pride of Bristol Bay is a primary fishing operation dedicated to carrying out the proud tradition of salmon fishing in the pristine and remote location of Bristol Bay, Alaska. Alaska, the only state that has sustainability written into their Constitution has been the overseer of Bristol Bay since being granted Statehood in 1959. This longstanding statewide commitment to sustainability, in addition to the Bristol Bay Salmon Management Plan administered by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, is recognized as one of the most effective, comprehensive resource management regimes in the world, providing stewardship of Bristol Bay’s core asset for all stakeholders for generations to come.
Pride of Bristol Bay specializes in wild sockeye salmon which are harvested by a select group of fishermen whose strict fishing and handling practices guarantee their customers an unprecedented level of quality. Sockeye salmon are known as the vegetarians of the salmon world because their diet consists not of other fish, but krill, plankton, and algae. They consume a great deal of astaxanthin, a natural carotenoid found in microalgae and krill. In addition to lending sockeye their famous, deep red color, astaxanthin is a health and longevity powerhouse, up to 100 times more effective than Vitamin E at quenching ‘free radicals’.
Every salmon the fishermen of Pride of Bristol Bay catch is bled immediately after being removed from their nets, then submerged in 33 degree circulating seawater. This process guarantees unblemished, rich-tasting, firm flesh – wild salmon at its absolute best! A unique relationship between their fishermen and Bristol Bay’s most innovative seafood processing company ensures their customers receive the highest possible quality product and transforms their catch into the vibrant, rich, red fillets and portions delivered directly to their customers.
With their entire business model being built around the notion of creating a connection between the harvester, the resource, the place, the product and the consumer, in 2017 each and every one of Pride of Bristol Bay’s master cases will bear identification of the Bristol Bay fishing district in which the wild sockeye salmon was harvested. This move further provides understanding that their product is harvested responsibly from a sustainable resource, and provides their customers with an unprecedented amount of traceability information.
